Q: What do I need to know for curbside recycling in Lakeway?

A: All your questions FINALLY answered!

  • Two types of plastics can be recycled, HDPE #2 (ie: milk cartons), and PTE#1 (ie: mouthwash)
  • Labels can be left on, but the bottles must be rinsed
  • You can recycle colored or clear glass containers
  • Only newspapers or magazines may be recycled
  • Aluminum, steel, and tin cans may be recycled
  • Glass, cans, and plastic can be mixed together

Lakeway Recycling No-Nos!!!

  • Plastic grocery bags, any other plastic bag, solid-colored containers, and containers with openings larger than the base CANNOT be recycled.
  • Lids and tops from recyclable containers may not be recycled.
  • No Pyrex or ceramic containers!
  • Wet paper may not be recycled
  • Newspapers must be bound with string or placed in a paper bag, NO plastic bags!
  • No scrap paper may be recycled
  • Aerosol, scrap metal, aluminum foil, and aluminum food trays cannot be recycled!

 

Q: My office or school doesn’t recycle, and I think we should. What can I do about this?

A:  There are several companies who manufacture recycling containers that can be used for curbside recycling or in the home or office to help sort recyclables.

They produce recyclable recycling bins packaged with recyclable cardboard and package them so that they can be carried in the most efficient way on a truck, not a plane. They also give you a 10% reimbursement when you trade in an old bin for a new one.

Q: How can I stop getting junk mail to reduce the waste AND the headache?
